BASS

In this section we will go over the bass and cover the five sections of Seven Nation Army. There will be video, notation, TAB and graphic notation that is colour coded to help you learn how to play it. You will also learn about reading TAB.

The bass has four (4) strings (E, A, D, G). Frets are raised lines on the neck of the bass guitar - they mark where different notes fall on the instrument. Below is a bass fret map showing you where these notes fall.

READING TAB

TAB is a form of notation. For Bass Guitar it is made up four (4) lines, and numbers. The lines refer to each string - E, A, D, G (from low to high), and the numbers refer to which fret to press. If it is a 0, it means it is an open string (see below).

So in the below, you would play the 2nd fret on the A string. Sometimes, the rhythm is written above the TAB [as seen below].

FRET MAP

As discussed above, the Bass Guitar has four strings - E, A, D, G. It also has frets. Below is a Fret Map (up to 8th fret) that shows what notes can be played, on what strings, and what fret. For example, B can be played by playing the A string on the 2nd fret.
